- ABOUT -

Beautiful Cap Martin nestles its languid shores into the sea of crystalline water between Monaco and Menton. The village of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin is actually centred on the medieval village of Roquebrune, which towers over the cape (the village and cape are linked by innumerable very steep steps).

TO WANDER AMONGST

    BEAUTY

Situated 2 kilometers from Menton and Monaco, this seaside resort rises to 300m. altitude on 933ha., starting at the water’s edge and going all the way up to its perched village. The history of Roquebrune Cap Martin is felt everywhere, much to the pleasure of history and architecture lovers, and those nostalgic for the Roaring Twenties.

A LUXURIOUS RETREAT

Between Menton and Monaco, Roquebrune-Cap-Martin was long one of the most sought-after locations by both artists and the aristocracy of the Belle Epoque. The medieval village huddled around the castle rears up above Cap Martin, a well-preserved haven with typically Mediterranean vegetation.

THE MEANING BEHIND THE NAME

L’Aumônerie:

The origin of the name, L’Aumônerie, means the Alms House: A place where gifts were received to help those in need. Originally linked with the church, parts of the house date back almost a thousand years. Over the centuries, the house and garden has grown and changed with many alterations and additions. The previous owners were a famous decorator and a Vogue fashion photographer: Raymond Poteau and Henry Clarke. Much of the current design is either original or based on their guiding principals. Raymond and Henry were very social and through Henry’s photography many famous people visited the house and gardens. One, Princesse Grace, once called the garden her favorite on the coast. A magical house unlike any other on the Riviera.
